Passyunk Square

Welcome to Passyunk Sq (pronounced pash-unk not pass-e-yunk)! Passyunk Sq is in South Philadelphia from S Broad St to 6th St, and Tasker St to Washington Ave. The neighborhood got its name from the Lenape tribe’s word Pachsegink, which means “place between the hills” or “in the valley.” The notorious Passyunk Ave was formerly a Lenape trail. Now harboring a wealth of individually owned restaurants, bars, cafes, studios and shops, this section of the city is a great hangout spot for food, entertainment, and everything in between. If you come to Passyunk Sq, don’t forget to try the cheesesteaks at notoriously rivaled restaurants Pat’s King of Steaks and Geno’s Steaks. You can easily reach Passyunk Sq by SEPTA bus and subway routes or taking the El. It’s also convenient to ACME, the Farmer’s Market, and the famous South Philly Italian Market.
